Vermont Family and Medical Leave Programs
What is the Update?
Vermont Family and Medical Leave Insurance (VT FMLI)
Update (10/20/26, effective 01/01/27): With VT FMLI being an optional leave insurance program, both employers and indivudal employees can opt into the program. When an employer opts in, the coverage amount and maximum benefit amount can be customized to the employer's coverage goals, however, there is a base level of coverage that employers must provide (if not opting for a higher maximum weekly benefit amount). This base level matches the standard weekly benefit amount that is set for employees who individually opt in, which is 60% of the employee's average weekly wage, indexed annually based on the Social Security wage cap.
Now that the Social Security wage cap has been announced for the 2027 year, this means that the maximum weekly benefit amount for VT FMLI will be $2,218.85 in 2027. Please note that if as an employer you have opted into the program and have chosen a higher maximum benefit than the base level of coverage, this amount may look different for you. If you are a Larkin Company client and have chosen to enroll in the VT FMLI program or have individual employees who opt into the program, please let us know as soon as possible, so we can administer your leaves accordingly.
